How to Plan a 5-Days Lava Tour?

Lava Tour Itinerary for 5 Days

Day 1: Transfer to Lava

After arrival at New Jalpaiguri Station (NJP)/ Bagdogra Airport you will start your 4 hours journey towards Lava. Lava is a sleepy and calm little town located in the Kalimpong district of West Bengal. Surrounded by dense pine and coniferous trees this is a must visit place for all nature lovers looking for a getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. After covering approx 105 km as you reach Lava, you will be taken to Lava Monastery first. Located right in the heart of the town, this monastery provides a glimpse of the Tibetan architecture. After spending some time here, proceed to the homestay. After freshening up you are free for the rest of day to relax and take a stroll in the nearby local market. Overnight stay at Lava.

Day 2: Transfer to Kolakham & visit to Changey Fall

Breakfast at hotel and after breakfast check out from the hotel and start your 45mins journey towards Kolakham. It is a small village in Kolbong Forest within the Neora Valley. The route towards Kolakham will leave you mesmerized. Reach Kolakham after covering approx 8km and check into the hotel. After freshening up proceed towards Changey Fall 1.5hr journey from Kolakham. After covering 4.5km you will reach Changey Fall. Sooth your senses by listening to the alluring sound of Changey Waterfall, with 900ft trek. Seeing the wonderful waterfall gushing down from high above can be quite mesmerizing. After seeing this majestic waterfall head back to the homestay. On reaching the homestay at Kolakham, check-in and have a delicious lunch. After a tiresome day you are free to relax or explore the village on foot. Overnight stay at Kolakham.

Day 3: Transfer to Lolegaon and Sightseeing

After completing the Breakfast at homestay, start your 2 hrs journey towards Lolegaon. At a distance of approx 45km, Lolegaon is yet another offbeat and remote destinations under the Kalimpong district. Your journey will be full of excitement as you will pass through dense jungle. Lolegaon does not have much to offer though, there are few places which are worth exploring, the famous one being The Canopy Walk. A hanging bridge which is 180-meters long that goes through the dense forest and slowly takes you to a height where you will find yourself walking through the tree tops, making you feel a part of nature. After this breathtaking experience, have lunch at a local restaurant here and enjoy some delicious cuisine. Post lunch visit Dabling view point, another beautiful viewpoint which offers a panoramic view of Neora Valley National Park and Mt Kanchenjunga. Watch the fading golden sunset in the Himalayan valley below the snow-capped mountain range. After spending a beautiful day, now its time to proceed towards your homestay. Check-in and relax for the day. Have dinner and overnight stay at Lolegaon.

Day 4: Transfer to Kalimpong and Sightseeing

After a quick breakfast at homestay, complete the check-out formalities and start your 2hr journey towards Kalimpong. Reaching at Kalimpong after covering approx 58km, your will be taken to explore the sightseeing places of Kalimpong. Dello Hill is the highest point of Kalimpong city at an altitude of 5590 ft. Deolo offers 360 degree view of the Kalimpong city and neighboring hill. It is famous among tourists for its best views of River Teesta and Mt. Kanchenjunga. Its is a must visit place for adventure lovers as you can try Paragliding activity here. On the way to Deolo, visit Dr. Grahams Homes School this missionary school was set up by Dr. J A Graham in 1900 as an orphanage cum school for the destitute Anglo Indian children. Hanuman Mandir perched on the hill a short hike towards this temple offers a serene and picturesque view of the Kanchenjunga and on a sunny day neighboring state of Sikkim and the surrounding landscapes of lava and kafer hills is also clearly visible. Pine view Cactus Nursery, known for its variety of Cacti, over 1500 cactus species are found here. Next you will visit Durpin Monastery which is loacted at Durpin Dara Hills. From the terrace of the monastery you will get some magnificent views of surrounding hills and Kalimpong town. Spend some time here and soak yourself in the beauty of this place. After sightseeing, now its time to proceed towards the hotel. After freshening up you are free for the rest of the evening to relax in the hotel or take a stroll in the market area for handmade local merchandise and try some local cuisine. Overnight stay at Kalimpong.
