How to Plan a 9-Days Sikkim Tour?

Sikkim Tour Itinerary for 9 Days

Day 1: Transfer to Darjeeling

Arrival at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP)/ Bagdogra Airport and start your 3hrs journey towards Darjeeling. The site of a lush tea garden with the drop back view of mountains will accompany you for most of the journey. After covering 33km you will be welcomed by the cool soothing winds of the hills it's also when you will see the road and railway track running in the same route. Reach Darjeeling after covering approx 80km and check into the hotel. After freshening up you have the rest of the day to yourself, take a stroll in the mall, or sit on a peripheral bench in Chowrasta for a while, relax and enjoy the ambience and watch the activities.

Day 2: Darjeeling Sightseeing

Early morning breakfast and then go for 3 point tour of Tiger Hill to see one of the most mesmerizing sunrises, Old Ghoom monastery one of the oldest Tibetan monasteries built in Darjeeling, and Batasia Loop where the toy train can be seen taking a dramatic loop. You will be driven back to the hotel again for the breakfast. After breakfast, go for sightseeing to some of the finest attractions like Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, Tenzing and Gombu Rock, Passenger Ropeway, Japanese Temple, Peace Pagoda, Chitrey Tea Garden etc.

Day 3: Transfer to Pelling

The archaic quaint Singshore Bridge is one of the major attractions in Pelling. The journey between Darjeeling and Pelling is a beautiful ride through steep green hills and deep valleys with fast-flowing mountain rivers and numerous waterfalls. The journey runs through the winding road cutting across the valleys, hills, and villages and follows the course of Teesta River and then beautiful Rangit River till Legship. Reach Pelling after covering approx. 75km and check into the hotel. After freshening up you have the rest of the day to yourself for a leisure walk along the misty track through the pine forest or try the local cuisine. Day 4: Pelling Local Sightseeing

Breakfast at hotel and after breakfast start your local sightseeing of Pelling. Start by visiting Darap Village which is a sleepy village nestled on a gentle slope of the mountain and is mostly occupied by the Limboo tribe, although there is a small population of other communities as well Visit Rimbi Waterfalls which looks spectacular in summer that attracts many waterfalls lovers

On the way to Gangtok, you can visit Namchi while stopping for lunch. It is a fast-developing place in South Sikkim is often known as the Culture Capital of the state. The place has been developed as a hub of religious and cultural tourism in Sikkim. In fact, you can see a replica of all the four dhams of India (char dhams) at Namchi and also the biggest statue of Guru Padmasambhava. Namchi also has a well laid out township with a Central Park (a small square) at the town center it will take around 2hrs to visit all these places. Reach Gangtok after 2-3 hrs and check into the hotel. After freshening up you are free for the rest of the day to stroll around MG Marg. Jotted with colorful souvenir shops, cafes, and places to eat, a visit to this road will get you closer to the indigenous cultures, colorful traditions, and the local delicacies of Sikkim.

Day 6: Sightseeing at Tsomgo Lake & Baba Mandir

Have a light breakfast at the hotel and start your journey towards Tsomgo Lake or Changu Lake. It is a glacial lake in Sikkim and is located at an elevation of 12,310 feet. Changu Lake is filled with water of melting snow coming from the surrounding mountains. It's a one-kilometre-long oval-shaped lake. The average depth is about 50 feet. During summer and autumn, you will find Primula flowers and other Alpine vegetation around the lake. And during winter the lake becomes frozen and a snowfield. After soaking in the beauty of the serene lake you can awaken your taste buds by trying some Tibetan noodle or continue your journey towards Baba Mandir about 20km from Changu Lake. Baba Mandir is a shrine made in honour of an Indian army Major 'Baba' Harbhajan Singh. He is revered by soldiers of the Indian army as the "Hero of Nathula". As with most saints, the Baba is said to also grant favours presumably to those who revere and worship him. After offering your prayer head back to Gangtok after arriving at Gangtok you are free for the rest of the evening to either relax or buy some souvenirs for your close ones.

Day 7: Transfer to Lachen

After breakfast check out from the hotel and start your journey towards Lachen a small town at an elevation of 2750mt. On the way to Lachen, you can visit Singhik View Point which offers the most magnificent view of Mt. Khangchendzonga and Mt. Siniolchu, Seven Sisters Waterfalls witness the pristine waterfall and savor the perfect beauty, Naga Waterfalls place offers a panoramic view of snow-capped mountains all around, Chungthang is considered to be a holy place which has been blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, the patron saint of Sikkim. There is a rock here which to this day bears the hand and footprints of Padmasambhava. Lunch on the way, arrive Lachen after 6hrs journey and check into the hotel. After freshening you are free for the rest of the evening to relax and enjoy the scenic view of Lachen.

Day 8: Gurudongmar Lake Excursion and Transfer to Gangtok

Have an early morning breakfast and head towards Gurudongmar Lake. It is a journey of about 3hrs towards this beautiful lake which is the major source of River Teesta. Gurudongmar is one of the highest lakes in the world and believed to be blessed by Guru Padmasambhava but due to high altitude breathing problems may also arise. After soaking yourself in the beauty of this majestic lake proceed towards Lachen. After lunch, visit the Lachen Monastery and start your journey to Gangtok via Chungthang.
