Approximately 75 km distance away from Kalimpong and about 55 km distance away from the main town of Siliguri, Gorubathan proves to be an ideal offbeat settlement nestled beside the riverbank of Chel.

  • Dalim Fort: It is one of the major attractions near Gorubathan. The fort was built by the Bhutanese kings who were ruling the region in ancient times. However, it is now in ruins, and because of its unique location on the hilltop, it offers a stunning panoramic view of the surrounding.
  • Sakham Forest: This forest is just approximately 8 km distance away from Gorubathan. The journey through the winding roads, lush forest, and the vast stretch of tea gardens is truly worth noting. While visiting the forest, you will cross two small rivers. The name of the first one is Mal whereas the second one is Neora. The hydroelectric project over the river Neora is another popular tourist site here.
  • Faforkheti: It is a small village and a quite popular picnic spot among the locals. Surrounded by lush green tea gardens, visitors will truly love to spend some quality time here in the lap of Mother Nature.
  • Lava: Just 40 km distance away, Lava is a pictorial hamlet near Gorubathan. It is located beside Neora Valley National Park and has some worth visiting tourist sites, the major one being Lava Monastery.

  • By Air: Bagdogra is the maiden airport near Gorubathan. Several flights are available to this particular airport from most of the major airports of India. You have to board a flight to this airport and then again get the help of a hired car.
  • By Road: Reaching Gorubathan by road is not that hard. The village is easily accessible from Siliguri, Malbazar, and any other nearby cities.

Best Time to Visit Gorubathan Village

The weather of the village is soothing and quite enjoyable whether you visit it during summer or winter. Every season has its own kind of beauty to offer to its visitors. However, the season of monsoon is not the ideal one to visit the village because of the occurrence of frequent landslides.
