Morgan House Tourism Property and Cottages, formerly known as Morgan House Tourist Lodge, is a historic accommodation in Kalimpong, managed by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation. Originally constructed around a century ago for a British couple, this residence was designed in classic British architectural style and served as a summer retreat, often hosting grand gatherings. Today, Morgan House has been repurposed as a tourist destination, continuing to offer its unique charm under the care of the WBTDCL.

The Morgan house has been the host to many notable personalities including India's first prime minister of India Mr Jawaharlal Nehru, legendary singer Kishore Kumar, superstar Uttam Kumar, and many others. Morgan Tourist Lodge and Cottages offers 7 rooms in 5 separate sections. Very close to Durpin Dara Hilltop, this lodge is Kalimpong golf course. The breathtaking view of Mount Kanchenjunga and the entire Kalimpong Valley is what the lodge offers to its guests.

This property was once a summer getaway and venue for big parties. After the Morgans died without any heirs, it was taken over by trustees. Later, the Indian government got control of it. In 1962, plans were made to turn it into a government rest house when Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru fell ill, but these plans were canceled after his sudden death. In 1965, it was given to the tourism department and finally in 1975, it was transferred to the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation (WBTDC). Since then, it has been run as a tourist friendly accommodation.

Story behind Morgan House

Morgan House Tourism Property is famous for its horror stories involving two British couples who built the mansion in 1930. This British colonial mansion was built to celebrate the wedding of George Morgan, an indigo plantation owner, and a jute baron. It was originally used as a summer retreat and for hosting elaborate parties. Today, the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation owns and runs it, and it was formerly called Durpin Tourist Lodge.

Located in the most beautiful area of Kalimpong, Morgan House is known for its spooky reputation, with tales of Lady Morgan's ghost haunting the place. Room No. 101 is said to be the most haunted because it's believed that Lady Morgan took her own life there. Staying here is sure to be a memorable experience for the guests.
