Lingtam is the first village of Silkroute with a check post after reaching Rongli on its route. The small village is known for its peacefulness with a sparkling weather guarded by a small river called BakhuterKhola. The village is Located at an altitude of around 5000 feet above sea level, Lingtam is surrounded by hills on all sides and has two monasteries.
The sunshine and pleasant weather throughout the year makes Lingtam one of the favorite spots of tourists. You might enjoy a cup of tea on your journey to the adventurous high-altitude destinations of Silk Route. Lingtam has got two monasteries - the old monastery has some nice wall paintings on the walls whereas the new monastery is more spacious and it hasa lucrative meditation hall.

How to Reach Lingtam

New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is the nearest and only railway station which is connected will all major cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Bagdogra (IXB) is the nearest only airport also have daily flight from all major cities of India. From both railway station and airport tourists can hire a car directly to Lingtam, distance being 127KMs from NJP and 135km from Bagdogra.

Accommodation in Lingtam

Lingtam - the destination which is still untouched and is all geared up by attracting tourists through its homestay tourism, located along the Rorathang-Nathula route. There are only five home stays which is operating in this village, the State government has sanctioned two additional rooms for 14 extended families in Lingtam for home stay tourism purposes. All rooms are warm, restful, and hygienic with western attached bath and hot and cold water facility.

It is impossible to visit Lingtam during monsoon but rest of the season it is evergreen you can visit anytime.

Some important things to remember

If you want to witness the snowfall, January and to the middle of February is the best time to visit. Take the permission from the S.D.P.O. or else you can contact office at Rangoli and Gangtok to visit the Silk Route. Carry one photo copy of the Government issued I-card and two passport size photograph during application as you will be asked to submit those.
