Places to Visit in Ghalaytar Village

Ghalaytar, being a small village nestled on a hilltop offers a complete serenity along with a jaw-dropping view of Mount Kanchenjunga. There is a vast stretch of tea gardens and paddy fields can be seen. Orange orchards and cardamom trees are in abundance in the village. Riyang River Valley of Sittong crossing the age-old bamboo bridge is another place to visit.

From the village, one can have a short excursion to Ahaldara Viewpoint to catch a captivating panoramic view of the valley, visit Mungpoo to see Rabindranath Tagore's house and Sittong for its orange orchards.

How to Reach this Offbeat Destination

Ghalaytar can be reached from all its adjacent locations such as Mungpoo, Kalijhora and Birik. Hired cars or taxis are available from Siliguri, Bagdogra or even from NJP. The distance from NJP to Ghalaytar is about 60 km.

Best time to Visit Ghalaytar

Ghalaytar can be visited at any time of the year but winter (October to November) is considered to be the best time due to its charming weather and the scenic view of the mighty Kanchenjunga range.
