Places to See and Activities to Do in Chungbung

Chungbung, an offbeat hilly hamlet of Sikkim, is replete with plenty of tourist attractions. The telescopic hill also named as Durpin Dara is one of the prime attractions of the village. One can catch a breathtaking panoramic vista of the surroundings from Durpin Dara. Among the villagers, Durpin Dara is known as "Gari" which means fort. In the old days, there was actually a fort and it is now in ruins. The spot is now used as a takeoff point for Para gliders.

Just a few kilometres above the village, Tanki Dara also known as Hinguwa Tar is a picnic spot amidst the thickly wooded forest of the hamlet. Yesoltsoling Monastery, the Noobling Gumpa, etc are some of the religious sites to explore in the village. Nearby sightseeing places like Pelling, Pemyangtsey, Temi Tea Garden, etc can easily be visited by a short excursion from the village.

Paragliding is the most adventurous activities to do in the village. While paragliding, one will get astonished by having a great aerial view of the valley, mountain peaks as well as the white floating clouds. The takeoff point is Durpiney Dara. However, long-distance paragliding can also be done up to Jorethang covering approximately 6 km of aerial distance.

How to Reach Chungbung Sikkim

The nearest Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri Junction (NJP) whereas Bagdogra is the nearest airport. Cars are available to hire from NJP or Bagdogra airport to the village via Jorethang.

Best Time to Visit the Chungbung

Chungbung can be visited at any time of the year. The weather stays appealing most of the time and the temperature usually stay normal most of the months. However, those who want to enjoy Paragliding; winter is the best time for them.
