Quite adjacent to Pelling, There is a tiny offbeat destination named Tashiding. Situated on the hilltop, Tashiding means "The Devoted Central Glory". Nestled at an altitude of 250 m above sea level, Tashiding is quite renowned for its monastery with the same name established in 1641 AD. Countless devotees from all around the world come to participate in the annual Bumchu festival.

Tashiding is a paradise for nature enthusiast as well as for the sole followers of Buddhism. While holidaying in the village, here are the things you will get to see in and around.

  • Tashiding Monastery is the major attraction of the village. Established on the top of the hill and near the Rathong and Rangit river, Tashiding is a Century-old monastery. According to the legend, even a slight glimpse of the monastery can purify all the sins and problems of a person.
  • Several prayer wheels starting from the market to the Monastery. Moreover, in the monastery, there are 41 chortens consisting of different categories like "Chortens of Enlightenment", "Chortens of Great Miracle" and "Chortens of Reconciliation".
  • Adjacent monasteries such as Hungree, Dubdi and Sinon Monastery, etc.
  • The luxuriant forest surrounding the village as well as the mountain peaks.

Tashiding, being one of the major religious site in Sikkim, there are lots of activities that can be done and they are as follows-

  • Visit the iconic Tashiding Monastery, spin the prayer wheels, feel the instant catharsis of your soul while visiting "Thong-Wa-rang-Dol."
  • Visit the Sinek market to buy Tibetan trinkets, handicrafts, paintings, artefacts, etc.
  • Trek through the forests filled with flora and fauna to the various sightseeing places nearby.
  • Indulge yourself in the village walking and the bird watching activities as the village is often termed as a birdwatcher's paradise.

How to Reach Tashiding Sikkim

Tashiding can be reached from most of the nearby cities as it is nicely connected by roads. New Jalpaiguri Junction is the nearest railway station and Bagdogra is the nearest airport. Hired cars are available from both of these stations as well as from Siliguri.

There is a government guest house, several homestays and resorts to stay in the village. Hence, getting accommodation will not be a problem here. Moreover, all these staying options come with all the basic amenities a traveller usually demand.

Even though Tashiding can be visited at any time of the year, Those who want to witness "Bhumchu Ceremony" can visit during the month of February. Due to the intense festive mood, February is considered to be the best time to Visit Tashiding in Sikkim.
