Samsing, situated at an altitude of 3000 ft. is the gateway to the Neora Valley National Park. It is located at a distance of 82kms from Siliguri. Samsing is famous for its scenic landscape, green tea gardens, hills, and forests in the North Bengal Region. Rivers and mountains are an essential part of the landscape of Samsing. Samsing with its scenic beauty and serene ambiance has become one of the must visit places in North Bengal region. The beautiful village of Khasmahal in Samsing is full of orange orchards and during the harvesting season you could see that the whole village is glazed with an amazing shade of orange hue. Just after crossing the Khasmahal village, you will see the very first view of Murti River in Samsing. The surreal view of shimmering river stream cascading down the mountainous valley is truly breathtaking. The forest area bounding Samsing consists of several species of animals and plants. Some species found here include grey nightjar, greater racket-tailed drongo, orange-bellied leaf bird, etc.

There are many amazing picnicking and sightseeing spots for tourist in and around Samsing. Some of them are Lali-Guras, Rocky Island and Suntaley Khola or Suntalekhola. Neora Valley National Park is in a distance of an hour from here. You can also go for adventure treks starting from Suntalekhola leading to Neora Valley National Park. But you must seek permission from the forest department to enter the park. Other trekking routes lead to Tree Fern Point and Mo or Mouchuki from where the Himalayan Mountains are visible on one side. The snow covered Jalep La pass is also visible from here. In Samsing, visitors will find an impeccable blend of hills, plains, rivers, forest, tea-garden and villages. Samsing is divided into two parts; Samsing basti, which includes Khasmahal and fari, and Samsing Tea Garden. Local people are mostly employed in tea garden and tourism, but many of the younger generation have migrated to bigger cities for greater opportunities.

Suntalekhola is another ideal place to stay while visiting Samsing since most of the cottages are set up here. Suntalekhola located 4 kilometers uphill from Samsing has well facilitated cottages and bungalows maintained by West Bengal Forest Department. Visitors need to cross a small hanging bridge to arrive at the government resort at Suntalekhola.

How To Reach Samsing

Reaching Samsing is easy because it's accessible by road. It's a 3hour drive from Siliguri and the route is most rewarding. Located 85km from Siliguri, visitors can easily reach Samsing by hiring a car from Siliguri. Visitors can also board a train for Chalsa as it is the closest railway station from Samsing at a distance of 23km. Or they can board a flight for Bagdogra Airport. Located at a distance of 95km Bagdogra Airport is the closest airport from Samsing. From the respective junctions visitors can hire a taxi or car to reach Samsing.
