Day wise Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Lataguri and Jungle Safari in Gorumara

On arrival at NJP/Bagdogra (IXB), you will be greeted by our officials and then transferred to your resort in Lataguri. It is an overall 2-hour journey with an approximate distance of 68km. Lataguri, located near the Gorumara National Park is a quaint settlement in Jalpaiguri District. Blessed with rich flora and fauna, Gorumara is a midsized park in Dooars famous for its vast population of One Horned Rhinoceros. Check into your hotel and freshen up. In the noon after lunch be ready for Jungle Safari in Gorumara.

There are two-afternoon shifts for Jungle Safari in Gorumara. You can choose a shift between 2-5 pm according to your convenience. With Gorumara Jungle Safari you will be able to explore the dense emerald green forest of Dooars while spotting the exquisite wild animals like bison, barking deer and Asiatic Rhino (Every year Gorumara National Park remains closed from 15th June to 15th September during this time you cannot go for Elephant/Jeep Safari in Gorumara). Return to your hotel after the adventurous jungle safari. Overnight stay at Lataguri.

Special Tips about Gorumara: In Gorumara National Park 50 species of mammals are available. Among mammals, horn rhinoceros, Indian gaur, Asian elephant, sloth bear, chital, and sambar are the big animals. Among small animals barking deer, hog deer, and wild boars are important. The only big cat available in this forest is the leopard. Other than these civets and mongoose can be found. Giant squirrel is another habitant of this national park. Rare hispid hares have also been sighted in this forest.

Day 2: Samsing, Suntalekhola, Rocky Island, Jhalong, Jaldhaka and Bindu sightseeing

Today, after an early morning breakfast in this Dooars Tour Plan for 7 Days, prepare to unveil the beauty of the offbeat destinations in Dooars. The first destination on your list is Samsing. It is an overall ride of 2 hours with an approximate distance of 85km. Samsing is a quaint village situated on the banks of River Murti. Bounded by a lush tea garden, in Samsing you can learn about the traditional plantation method of this region. After admiring the beautiful tea garden in Samsing we will head to Suntalekhola.

Best known as the base for exploring Neora Valley, Suntalekhola is another offbeat destination of Dooars. Next, drive to Rocky Island, the adventurer's hub in Dooars. Sited amidst the meandering stream of River Murti, Rocky Island is made with the formation of gigantic rocks which are said to be ideal for rock climbing. Riverside camping, trekking and angling are the prime attractions of Rocky Island. After lunch head towards Jhalong the next destination on your list.

With an approx distance of 25km from Rocky Island it is an overall journey of 1 hour to reach Jhalong. Located along the Indo-Bhutan border, Jhalong is known for its Hydro Electricity Project built on the River Jaldhaka. The dam is also used as a bridge by the people from Bhutan during the weekly market. Now we will drive you towards Jaldhaka Valley. Jaldhaka is a scenic river valley sprawled on the periphery of Neora Valley National Park. And the last but not least you will head towards Bindu the last hamlet of West Bengal. Here you can witness the impeccable view of Dooars plains and Bhutan hills. Return to the resort and overnight stay in Lataguri.

Special Tips about Jhalong, Bindu Jaldhaka: Three streams known as Dudh Pokhri, Bindu Khola and Jaldhaka meet at Bindu to form the Jaldhaka River. Jaldhaka River originates from a lake in Kupup, Sikkim. The dam in Bindu helps control the water supply for the Jaldhaka Hydro electrical project. This dam can be crossed only by foot. However, recently a steel bridge was constructed nearby for lightweight vehicles.

Day 3: Transfer to Jaldapara and visit to South Khayerbari

After an early morning breakfast check out from your resort and drive to your resort in Jaldapara. With an approximate distance of 80km, it is an overall 2-hour journey to reach Jaldapara from Lataguri. Jaldapara is a national park of Dooars famous for its vast collection of Avifauna and housing the 2nd largest number of One-Horned Rhinoceros. You will be staying in a private resort in Jaldapara. Check into your resort and freshen up.

After lunch, we will drive you to South Khayerbari Nature Park. Also known as Leopard and Royal Bengal Tiger Rescue Centre, South Khayerbari is also a rehabilitation centre. Located at a distance of 18km you will reach South Khayerbari after a 30-minute drive. You can observe the rescued animals of South Khayerbari while taking a tour in the battery-operated cars. During your South Khayerbari visit you can also go boating in River Torsha. Return to the resort and rest for the evening. Overnight stay at Jaldapara.

Special Tips about Jaldapara: After Kajiranga in Assam Jaldapara has the highest number of rhinoceros population in the country. There are about 20 species of mammals available. Among mammals rhinoceros, elephants, leopards, sambar, barking deer, spotted deer, hog deer, wild bores and Indian gaurs can be seen. A visit to Jaldapara is included in this Dooars Tour Plan for 7 Days.

Day 4: Jaldapara Jungle Safari and visit Coochbehar, Chilapata

Wake up early to prepare for the Jungle Safari in Jaldapara. Famous for being the home of Asiatic Rhinoceros, during your Jaldapara Jungle Safari you will be spotting wild animals like water buffalo, barking deer, wild boars, and exquisite winged mammals hiding in the tall grass while listening to the alluring chirping of birds. Explore the less trodden destination of Jaldapara and if you are lucky you will also come across a herd of Wild Elephant and majestic One-horned Rhinoceros (Every year from 15th June to 15th September Jaldapara remains close and during this time you cannot go for elephant/ jeep safari in Jaldapara).

Return to your resort after the thrilling jungle safari and have your breakfast. After breakfast, we will drive you to Chilapata and Coochbehar. Coochbehar is the only planned city of the Northeast East which still holds the remnants of its royal past. The drive is nearly 2½-3 hr over a distance of approx 80 km Via Alipurduar Road. The Rajbari or the Coochbehar Palace is the most prominent attraction of this historic city. Madan Mohan Temple is another favoured attraction of Coochbehar. The magnificent architecture of these ancient buildings is sure to woo your heart. This princely town has many natural water bodies like Rasikbill which attracts migratory birds from Central Asia and Ladakh during the winter season. After lunch and sightseeing in Coochbehar return to your resort in Jaldapara. Overnight stay in Jaldapara.

Special Tips about Coochbehar: Victor Jubilee Palace is another name for Coochbehar Rajbari (Palace). The design of the palace was influenced by the famous Buckingham Palace in London. This palace was built during the rule of Maharaja Nripendra Narayan. The double-story palace is made of brick in classical Western style. The palace covers an area of 51,309 square feet (4,766.8 m2). The whole structure is 395 feet (120 m) long and 296 feet (90 m) wide and rests 4 feet 9 inches (1.45 m) above the ground.

Day 5: Visit Phuentsholing and Transfer to Buxa

After breakfast check out from your hotel and drive to Phuentsholing (Bhutan). With an approximate distance of 30 km, it is an overall 1hr journey to reach Phuentsholing from Jaldapara. Located beside the bustling town of Jaigaon (India), Phuentsholing is the Southern Border Town of the Bhutanese Kingdom. The most iconic structure in Phuentsholing is the Bhutan Gate which is adorned with the vibrant colors and carvings of Thunder Dragon. There are many sightseeing spots in Phuentsholing like the crocodile breeding centre Amo Chhu and the wish-fulfilling monastery Karbandi located within easy walking distance.

Taste the mouth-watering Bhutanese delicacy while learning more about the ancient beliefs and ethics of Bhutanese culture in Phuentsholing. After lunch, we will drive towards your resort in Buxa. Buxa is the 15th Tiger Reserve of India famous in Dooars for its historic sites and amazing trails. In Buxa you will lodge in a private resort. After checking into the resort and freshening up you are free for the rest of the evening to relax. Overnight stay at Buxa.

Special Tips about Bhutan: The Present King of Bhutan is Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. The currency of Bhutan is Nu almost equal to Indian Rupees. In 1907 Wangchuck dynasty was established. Trongsa Penlop Ugyen Wangchuck was the first hereditary king of Bhutan. He was the first Druk Gyalpo or the 'Dragon King'.

Day 6: Buxa Jayanti Sightseeing

After breakfast, gear up for the sightseeing in Buxa-Jayanti. Famous for the astounding trekking routes you can either choose to drive or opt for trekking. Start your excursion with a visit to the ruin of Buxa Fort, where once the freedom fighters were held captive. Next, we take you to Rajabhatkhawa a small village inside Buxa Tiger Reserve. You can observe wild animals in their natural habitat through the Rajabhatkhawa Watchtower of this quaint village. Later visit Pokhari Hill. Pokhari Hill is known for its sacred lake where you can see magur fish and decades-old turtles.

Later we will go to the TGN Watchtower from where you can spot wild animals like Bison, Rhino, Deer and many beautiful butterflies. Lastly, visit the Mahakal Cave of Jayanti. Located near the banks of River Jayanti, Mahakal Cave is a famous religious site in Dooars. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Mahakala Cave of Jayanti is a beautiful cave made out of stalagmite. Buxa forest was declared the 15th Tiger Reserve of India in 1983. On 5th December 1997 Buxa Tiger Reserve received the status of National Park. Spread over an area of 760 sq km, Buxa is a famous tourist place in North Bengal and Dooars Region. Day 7: Drop to NJP/ Bagdogra

After an early breakfast, check out for your resort and we will drive you to NJP/ Bagdogra, your last destination. It is an overall drive of 4 hours with an approximate distance of 162km. throughout your journey to NJP/ Bagdogra from Buxa-Jayanti you will be accompanied by the mesmerizing view of lofty mountains and lush tea gardens. If time allows have some refreshments on the way to NJP/ Bagdogra.
