Day 1 Transfer to Gangtok

From New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP)/ Bagdogra Airport, begin your 4hrs journey towards Gangtok. Gangtok is a beautiful hill town. It is also the capital of the north-eastern state of Sikkim. Established as a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the 1840s, the city became the capital of an independent monarchy after British rule ended, but joined India in 1975.

The journey towards this beautiful town through the winding roads will be full of alpine trees and breathtaking sceneries. You will be visiting Tsomogo Lake and Baba Mandir today. Hence, after breakfast, enjoy a thrilling journey towards Tsomgo Lake. Also known as Changu Lake, it is located at an altitude of 12,310 feet. On the way, you will be passing by Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary which is home to rare animals like Red Panda, Himalayan Black Bears, and birds like Blood Pheasants. Usually, you can only spot a few yaks though. Changu Lake is filled with water of melting snow coming from the surrounding mountains. It's a one-kilometer long oval-shaped lake. The average depth is about 50-feet. During summer and autumn, you will find Primula flowers and other Alpine vegetation growing around the lake. However, during the winter, the lake gets completely frozen.

Continue your journey towards Baba Mandir about 20km from Changu Lake after having some Tibetan noodles.
