What Makes Assam and Meghalaya So Special?

Think of sailing on the wide Brahmaputra River in Assam or standing in front of a tall waterfall in Meghalaya. Assam is home to rare animals like the one-horned rhinoceros in Kaziranga National Park. In Meghalaya, strong living root bridges built over years connect remote villages.

This region offers something for everyone-wildlife safaris, peaceful tea gardens, scenic drives, and unique cultures. It's the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.

Assam: Where Tea Meets Wildlife

Your journey often begins in Guwahati, Assam's biggest city. From here, you can take a trip to Kaziranga National Park-home to rhinos, elephants, and many birds. Safari timings vary, but morning rides usually begin around 7 AM, and afternoon rides start at 2 PM, from November to April.

Assam also offers a peaceful drive through lush tea estates, where the smell of fresh leaves fills the air. Don't miss a ferry ride to Majuli, the world's largest river island, known for its ancient monasteries and friendly local communities. The best time to visit is from October to March, when the weather is cool and pleasant.

Want to explore history? Head east to Sibsagar, a town filled with old palaces and temples built by the Ahom rulers. It takes about 7 to 8 hours by road from Guwahati.

Meghalaya: Land of Clouds and Waterfalls

Once you enter Meghalaya, it's easy to see why people call it the "Scotland of the East." Its capital, Shillong, has beautiful spots like Shillong Peak and Elephant Falls. The best time to visit is from v and September to November, when the skies are usually clear.Drive to Cherrapunji or Mawsynram, two of the rainiest places on Earth. Here, you'll find amazing sights like the tall Nohkalikai Falls and the mysterious Mawsmai Cave. Cherrapunji is around 2 hours from Shillong, and Mawsynram is 2.5 hours away. For something truly special, walk to the living root bridges near Nongriat or Mawlynnong. These are best visited between October and May, as the paths can get slippery during the rainy season. Also, don't miss the crystal-clear Umngot River in Dawki and the clean, green village of Mawlynnong, about a 3-hour drive from Shillong.
